Former ICC CEO Says Pakistan is Set to Host Major Cricket Events
Cricket South Africa’s interim board member, Haroon Lorgat, has said that the security situation in Pakistan has improved considerably and he would like to see the South African team tour the country. He said that the safety of the players has always been the foremost priority of CSA when deciding to tour a country. The security situation in Pakistan has improved a lot over the past few years and it is safe to play cricket in the country, he added. He further stated that PCB’s efforts in hosting the PSL in Pakistan have been commendable and it shows that Pakistan deserves to play cricket on their home soil. He also backed the idea of Proteas touring Pakistan.
he said “I was in Pakistan during PSL 5 which was an enjoyable visit. I have been frequently visiting Pakistan and I have got no hesitation in coming.”
He heaped praise on PSL as well, adding that it offers high-quality cricket and has established itself as one of the top leagues in the world. PSL can move onto achieve bigger and better things if it is managed well, he opined. Lorgat has served as the CEO of ICC in the past and put his weight behind Pakistan hosting a major cricketing event in the near future.
“A global event is clearly in the sights of Pakistan, I’m sure there will be great excitement amongst the leadership of the PCB as they have not hosted such an event for a very long time.”
South African delegation has been in Pakistan, reviewing the security situation in the country prior to their tour of the country. As things stand, a South African tour of Pakistan in early 2021 is imminent.
